The Supporting People Project is a government funded programme which aims to help vulnerable older people improve their quality of life by providing a stable environment that enables them to live more independently.

The purpose of this project is to assist people citywide to REMAIN, REGAIN or RETAIN independence through support visits by an allocated Outreach Worker. The workers are skilled and trained to develop a relationship built on trust and compassion. Support given is designed to rebuild or develop everyday living skills giving the service user the confidence to become fully integrated and feel part of the local community.
It is not uncommon for new clients to be living day to day unaware of the services available to them or the financial benefits they may be entitled to. As part of the project we also provide Pastoral Support to help with spiritual issues giving the service user the opportunity to form links with the local Church or other community groups.
We provide Housing-related support services working in partnership with local government, service users and other service providers.
Housing-related support services can include help with:
- Maintaining your tenancy or getting a permanent home
- Keeping you and your home safe and secure
- Dealing with the benefits system and its forms
- Encouraging a healthy lifestyle
- Making links within your community and accessing its resources.
It enables and gives people the capacity to live independently in their own homes by encouraging them to learn the skills required to maintain a successful tenancy.
