  Community Care Project

Located in the busy front line office, the Community Care Project provides advice and information on a range of issues including Irish passports, birth certificates, benefits, Irish pensions, debt, housing, returning to Ireland, tracing relatives and funerals.

The majority of referrals to IWIC come through this office via the telephone from both agencies and concerned relatives, or from those wishing to refer themselves. This is the first point of contact for many accessing the services IWIC provides.

We offer advice and information to those struggling to pay rent, council tax and utility bills. By successfully negotiating reduced payments and maximising income through benefit and grant applications, the Community Care Worker can help alleviate much of the stress that these service users have been experiencing.

The Welfare Advice Worker assists those wishing to apply for the Irish Pension

The Social Worker, who is part of the Community Care Project works with agencies from the statutory and voluntary sector in order to safeguard and improve outcomes for children. Much of the work is around attempting to improve the social conditions of families, particularly concerning access to better quality and safer housing.

The Social Worker also works closely with Adults and Communities (Funerals and Protection of Property Dept) in tracing the next of kin of deceased members of the community. The Social Worker will also liaise with the Benefit Agency, Coroner's, Funeral Directors etc, on behalf of clients to ensure they receive practical and emotional support at a time when it is needed most.
